Life in the Diamonds and Dudas HQ is always bustling; papers everywhere, a gazillion projects on the go and always something new to learn…and that’s just how I like it!
Something pretty darn exciting happened recently and I’d love to share it with you all.
Sound the trumpets because… I have been nominated for a blogging award! Many, many thanks to the lovely Mel from Love Always, Mel for nominating me for the award. I truly appreciate it!
It’s safe to say I am pretty happy about it, (ok I’m extremely freaking pumped!) and there may even be some fist pumping action happening around here and random crump-style dancing going on in spontaneous bursts. Blogging can be a hard game, even just to get noticed in the vast sea of blogs and websites is a major achievement in it’s self so to think someone actually likes my blog enough to nominate it for an award is hugely encouraging and gives me the warm fuzzies. Shucks.
The award I’ve been nominated for is a ‘Liebster Award’, which is an award created by bloggers for bloggers in our community. The goal of the award is to introduce our followers to newer blogs on the internet. It’s a great way to work together and make the blogosphere a more fun and exciting place! Yay for bloggers!
To accept the nomination you must answer 11 questions as set out by the person that nominated you, below are my responses to the questions Mel set for me.
1 What made you start your blog?
I have been a stay at home mother of my two beautiful young children for the last four and a half years and I have been super happy doing all things mummy and wifey related. We are blessed with a great life that is never dull or boring and have many fun family adventures with our gorgeous yet very spirited children!
Last year I started to think beyond the children’s younger years and into the big picture about what I would like to do with my spare time when my children start school.
I decided it would be great to have a new and mentally challenging interest outside of my family life to utilise my brain in the adults world once again in a bid to stop it from turning to complete mush!
I then started thinking of jobs that I would like to do that would fit around my family life / current schedule and one that could be done in odd hours…which does not leave many conventional jobs left at all.
In an intensive brainstorming ‘aha!’ moment I fell in love with the idea of curating my own blog because I have always enjoyed writing and being creative; and the rest is blog post history!
2 Is there a meaning behind the name of your blog? If so, what is it?
Yes I’m glad you asked! It represents the split life of me as a woman, wife and mother which is what the blog is all about.
One look at my logo picture and you will instantly understand!
I wanted it to be relatable to all women, mothers and parents because I feel we are all trying to achieve the same work / family life balance.
Diamonds represents the fun, exciting and glitzy part of life; socialising, events, jet setting, magic family moments, shopping sprees, family holidays in swanky locations, getting your hair & nails done, drinks with the girls or date nights with hubby.
In short: The high life!
Dudas is therefore is the other extreme; the harsh and raw reality of the hard working and underpaid life of a mother and wife, and the responsibility that comes with all things domestic Goddess. For example, the dinner-bath-bed night time routine when the children are bouncing off the walls and throwing food everywhere, when the whole family comes down with gastro – at 3am, forgetting to put the bin out and then dealing with overflowing rubbish the whole next week, thinking of something to cook for dinner (again!) everynight, getting the kids in and out of the car to run errands or attempting food shopping with them in tow, cleaning the bathroom of a toilet-training and hugely messy young boy with little to no aim, living through house renovations and all sharing one bedroom, toddler tantrums and husbandly meltdowns; and all the other gross stuff we would rather forget.
Duda is the Croatian word for a child’s dummy, so in brief, it sucks!
3 If you could have dinner with anyone alive or gone, who would it be?
Good question. There are so many I could list starting with my own little family, but for the purpose of this interview it would have to be an inspirational woman leader of some sort, like Julia Gillard, Michelle Obama, the Queen, Princess Kate or Princess Mary.
4 What is your favourite quote?
I have so many, I can’t pick just one!
I really resonate with Aristotle’s ‘The more you know, the more you know you don’t know’ and this is reinforced each day.
I love this family orientated one, ’Happiness starts at Home’
Completely contradicting that is this light hearted funny one ‘Who ever said money can’t buy happiness didn’t know where to shop’ and it is so true, it can be bought…at the Range Rover shop!
Then finally ‘A passionate woman is worth the chaos’ just ask my husband!
5 Is blogging something you do for fun, or is it a form of income for you?
Initially it was something I wanted to do just for fun, as a hobby or challenge and something to do in my spare time.
Since beginning and having great success so early on I have realised the potential for an income.
My blog is having quite a large reach to a number of major countries far across the world that I never would have imagined I could reach, and the analytical data reports are backing that up by showing a huge increase in unique viewers each month as well as the returning loyal lovely readers.
Quite a few companies and brands have expressed their interest in working with me and I have already started collaborating on a number of projects which is really enjoyable and very encouraging.
I feel that businesses are beginning to see the huge potential bloggers have as social influencers and realise it’s a great way to increase their marketing and customer reach.
This is something I would like to set as a goal for myself, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
6 What is your dream holiday destination and why?
Anywhere tropical or snowing, I like extremes!
My favourite in Australia is always going to be Palazzo Versace for the overstated opulence and total luxury. It’s actually a fantastic holiday destination to stay at with young children because of the lagoon style beach pool, my little darlings love it! They have friendly staff, beautiful rooms and facilities, and the cuisine is amazing!
Overseas I’m bias towards Croatia because it’s my husbands motherland, and it really is a beautiful country. I also loved France and Switzerland. I have always wanted to go to Bora Bora, and I would love to take my children to the snow one day when they are a little older.
7 Mermaids or fairies?
8 Summer or Winter?
9 What is your favourite food?
Mediterranean, the Croatian’s really know how to do it!
Olives, prosciutto, dips, salami, antipasto, fish! I’m a very good #wogwife
10 What is your favourite movie of all time?
‘After the sunset’ starring Pierce Brosnan, Woody Harrelson and Salma Hayek.
Honestly though, I’m much more of a trashy reality tv girl, I love my Foxtel and I love the Real Housewives!
11 If you were a superhero, what would your special power be?
This is a hard one! I’d have to be an invisible, flying, magic wand-waving #girlboss, how that?!
11 Things about me
1 My name is Jolie; it has been for 36 years and yet still people try to correct the spelling! Umm, I think I know…
2 Last year I had this big idea to start my own blog. I would never have imagined how involved and consuming it would be! It has been the most amazing journey so far, full of learning, challenges, networking and pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do or achieve. I love every aspect of it and can’t wait to see what happens next!
3 I have 2 young children and a hubby that each make every day fun, exciting, slightly crazy and full of love. Family is number 1.
4 When I get rich from my blog the first thing I will buy is a shiny black Range Rover. I
might definitely have a huge obsession!
5 I love odd numbers.
6 I used to be a perfume girl at David Jones… Would you like to try my fragrance?
7 I hate getting sand in my shoes and will avoid it like the plague. Beach, no shoes, totally fine!
8 I love cooking for my little family, especially in the Thermomix.
9 I hate coffee, beer and cigarettes, that shit stinks and I can smell it on you a mile away!
10 I have a really heightened sense of smell; I can smell the rain from inside! Most of the time it is a good thing, but not always; see above!
11 I have really vivid dreams. I can smell in my dreams and sometimes my dreams are all in Croatian! No wonder I wake up exhausted!
